More picturesque surroundings than this is hard to find, just 50 meters from the sea and the small harbor in lovely Edshultshall. A fisherman’s cottage from the 1880, renovated with careful hands.
Here you can easily find your own little cliff where you can enjoy the sunshine all day and bring your favorite book. When you get tired of reading just enjoy the view, with boats sailing by & the lighthouse Kråkesundgap. If you have a boat, you can go to the car-free islands Gullholmen & Käringön or choose your own islet for a day. Mia’s boathouse, cafe & restaurant is located in nearby Hälleviksstrand, which is within cycling distance. If you have no boat you can rent kayaks, explore the bays and enjoy the bird life. Or take a water taxi to experience the coast from a different perspective.

The House
This traditional wooden house is renovated over the years with great care, it is both modern but old details are saved. The large bedroom upstairs is cozy with sloping ceilings and beams, from here you can see all the way to Käringön. In one bedroom upstairs there is a double bed and a sofa, in the second is one extendable Ikeabed + an 80cm wide bed. From that room you also have an exit to the roof terrace. There is no door between the two rooms, just a drapery.
The kitchen is on the first floor, and is cozy, both modern and with old charm. Here the old cast iron fireplace is preserved, but only for decoration. There is a modern induction hob for cooking. Downstairs there is also a living room with a seating area and TV, and another bedroom, with a double bed. The fresh bathroom has a shower & toilet. Enjoy a really lovely long breakfast in the glass veranda or in the small garden. Or why not sit on the stairs with a nice cup of coffee?
Edshultshall
Edhultshall is a small fishing community, and in the harbor you can see the sailing vessel West Coast, a beautiful three-masted schooner. The ship offers day trips from Edshultshall twice during the summer. Many pupils from Orust take a school trip on the ship and practise team building.
If you are lucky, you can sometimes buy fresh fish from the fishermen in the harbor. Imagine putting freshly caught fish on the barbecue outside the cottage or pack the basket full of good stuff and walk out on the cliffs. There are places for barbecue, a jetty with ladder and a diving board, perfect for a lovely evening swim in velvety water. The rocks will still be warm after today’s sunshine. When the evening comes and you still don’t want to go inside, settle down on your porch and enjoy the Swedish bright summer night where the sun almost sets and rises at the same time. Save up memories to warm you on a windy and cold winter day.
More to do on Orust
A small sample of what our island offers you can read about here. More tips about our favorite sites and links to the various places can be found under the tab Activities.
For those who like to hike, Orust pilgrimage is 80 km long and connects eight churches. You walk through meadows and forests. In the middle of the island lies Göksäter, a heaven for shoppers. Here you can find fabrics, clothes, tools and lots of other things at bargain prices. Töllås sheep farm has a wonderful café and a farm shop where you will find home grown vegetables, pickles, preserves and, of course, different wool and meat products from the sheep. At Tavlebods honey farm, they demonstrate the life of bees in a very educational way. They serve excellent “fika” (Swedish for coffee and pastry, coffee can be substituted with other beverages) and different honey products are for sale.
